Kenya: Promoting Sustainable Livelihoods for Women in Kilifi County

Kenya: Promoting Sustainable Livelihoods for Women in Kilifi County

ALARM Kenya, in partnership with the Kenya Community Development Foundation (KCDF), seeks to transform communities through the Promoting Sustainable Livelihoods for Women in Kilifi Country project and its pass-it-forward approach. As vulnerable women are trained in animal husbandry skills, they are empowered to make a living for their families. After the beneficiaries of this project go through the training, they are gifted with goats to use as income generation. As their livestock reproduce, the women are encouraged to train their neighbors in these same skills and pass-forward an offspring.

Beneficiaries of this project are now able to pay school fees, buy food, and meet other basic needs. As ALARM works alongside these vulnerable community members, they also provide psycho-social support to support the women in their journey of trauma healing. In the month of September, a total of 40 does and 10 bucks were distributed to 20 beneficiaries of the project in the Matano Manne region with plans underway to distribute 40 goats to the rest of the beneficiaries in Mlilore region in the coming months.
