The Club of Unity and Resilience Kanazi is composed of the 1994 genocide survivors combined with the genocide perpetrators (that include among others the released prisoners) and the children of both groups. This club is meant to shape the spirit of forgiveness, healing, and resilience among both parties’ members. Their shared efforts are not only beneficial to them as individuals but also to the wider community as negative impacts of the 1994 genocide are still vibrant.
ALARM, in partnership with Liberty University financially and practically assisted the Club of Unity and Resilience-Kanazi, Bugesera District, Western Province, with the refurbishment of a house of a widow living with her daughter. This one is a single mother of three children and she dropped out her school of Senior 3, that is the third level of high school.
During the break, club members shared their forgiveness and reconciliation testimonies. Alice Mukarurinda (a genocide survivor) who forgave and reconciled with Emmanuel Ndayisaba (a perpetrator of genocide who finished his ten years of imprisonment), and Beatha Mukabutera (a genocide survivor) who forgave and reconciled with Sebushumba Jean Bosco (a perpetrator of genocide who finished his punishment) shared their journey of reconciliation. Their strong testimonies have strongly shaped minds of Liberty University team members.
