After Mount Nyiragongo erupted in May, and left many vulnerable people displaced and traumatized, ALARM Rwanda responded to the need by giving food to the hungry, distributing cash for business start-ups, and providing counseling for those who were traumatized. This response provided 405 people with food for 2 months, 40 individuals with cash for a business start-up, and there are no signs of anxiety among the victims. Esther, one of the victims of the disaster, used her business capital to purchase 4 chickens and now she has 10 chickens that produce 50 eggs per week! This income allows her to buy medicine, clothes, and other necessities.
