The Burera Food and Education project was implemented, in partnership with Rise Up Woman International, in 2020 as a response to the socio-economic challenges of COVID-19. 40 individuals were trained in agricultural practices and were gifted a pig. Because of the pigs, families have compost for their gardens and the offspring are being used to sell for income generation. This project has a pass-it-forward approach that encourages each individual to train other community members and gift them with an offspring from their pig. “You can read smiles on everyone’s faces because the malnutrition of their children has gone!”
