BURERA FOOD PRODUCTION AND EDUCATIONAL PROJECT March 2024 The Burera farm initiative stands to transform the community by training small farmers and community members in mixed agriculture conservation farming techniques to increase crop yields, fight against malnutrition, and decrease poverty. This initiative is combined with providing piglets to local poor families especially widows which support the women in producing organic manure to use in their small farms to increase crop production and create additional sources of income through sales and also additional meat sources while fighting against malnutrition. After the Burera farming project received the donation of pigs through Rise Up Women International. The pigs were purchased and the purpose was that the pigs should reproduce piglets to be distributed to many other widows and poor farmers of the Burera community and at the same pigs will be producing manures to be used in farming. Burera Project is excited and thank God that the pigs have started reproducing we have two pigs that reproduced 16 piglets. The first reproduced six piglets and the second reproduced ten piglets. As we have mentioned these piglets will enable the Burera farming project to reach more vulnerable women poor farmers in Kagogo Sector. The pigs will help in improving Burera production and self-reliance by conserving soil, compost-making reserve, promoting organic farming, and adding value to food production.
