Family Enrichment Conferences in Burundi and Rwanda

Eighty curious faces stare at us as we are handed the microphone. African pastors and their wives… What could we, a suburban American couple, teach these rural African pastors? What could these couples teach us?

Shortly after we entered the hall, the conference began with lively worship songs and these curious faces turned heavenward in jubilant praise. We occasionally tried to follow the words in the Kirundi or Kinyarwanda (Burundi and Rwandan languages) songbooks but ended up simply clapping and swaying to the beat.

The first conference exercise was for participants to teach us about the marital issues they struggle within their respective countries. Surprisingly the categories were exactly the same as the top three reasons for divorce in America, only the context was a bit different…

Money – These families live in desperate poverty. They struggle with communication about and control of their meager finances.

Please do not fall prey to them. If you receive an email that has the words “Powered By Outblaze” anywhere in it, this is a spam email.

What is sad is that this person took the names Rev. Celestin Musekura and then created an email with an sandwiched “alarm” in the email address. But as you can see clearing, his email is not alarm-inc.org . his email is graffiti.net.

15th Commemoration of Rwanda Genocide: ALARM RWANDA STAFF OFFER A MESSAGE OF HOPE AND FORGIVENESS TO THE NATION

Introduction
This year (2009) marks 15 years since genocide ripped apart the people and country of Rwanda. In 1994 one million innocent people lost their lives in a period of 100 days. Every year since this horrific occurrence, the Government of Rwanda has organized a one week commemoration aimed at rejecting the ideology of genocide and embracing the unifying principles of forgiveness and reconciliation. It is not an easy task to rebuild a nation and reconcile hurting communities. The Rwandese Government of Unity cannot accomplish this goal alone. That is why non-governmental organizations (NGO’s), private sector corporations and religious bodies have been called to join the government’s efforts to teach the people of Rwanda how to live and work together again and find solutions to problems that could potentially create a climate of misunderstanding or division.
In the fall of 1994 Rev. Celestin Musekura heard God calling him to start a ministry that would train new leaders and strengthen those pastors who had survived the genocide; a ministry that would spread the biblical message of forgiveness and reconciliation for the healing of the community.
