Fraudulent Activities Carried Out Under the ALARM Name
Posted January 19th, 2010 by nancyThis is to inform all our friends and partners that there are some people in Kenya conducting fraudulent activities and using ALARM’s name. One such person has been identified as Margaret Wahito Maina who claims to be part of “African Leadership and Reconciliation Ministries” as well as “Global Education Partnership.” This person, together with others, is attempting to secure funds for student sponsorships. According to our staff in Kenya, this group of people have already solicited money from unsuspecting victims – promising them micro-finance loans. These activities have been reported to the Kenyan police and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
We would greatly appreciate if you would pray with us over this matter.

Posted December 18th, 2009 by nancy
ALARM was recently awarded a $50,000 grant from The Embrey Family Foundation to begin a Continuum of Care and Support program for African refugee women living in Dallas.
The President of the Foundation, Lauren Embrey, presented the check to Dr. Celestin Musekura, ALARM’s President and International Director during a small ceremony held at the ministry’s offices in Dallas. The objective of the African Refugee Program is to develop a core group of women mentors from within the refugee community, who will be equipped to assist incoming refugees in managing the complex challenges of acculturation, while also providing a support system for them to heal from the trauma of war, genocide, rape and tribal conflict.
With support from The Embrey Family Foundation, this new African Refugee Program will begin to train a core group of mentors. Women selected for this program will receive a year of group and individual trauma counseling and support; intensive training in domestic conflict resolution, cultural adaptation, life skills, parenting and family law issues, as well as training in leadership and mentoring.
75 Police & Military Chaplain Officers Trained
Posted December 4th, 2009 by nancyI have just completed a three-day training session for 75 Police and Military Chaplain Officers in the Government of Southern Sudan. The participants were from different divisions of the organized forces: Army, Police, Wildlife, Fire Brigade, Police and Army Hospitals. The focus of the training was in conflict resolution, peacebuilding and reconciliation. This was the first training of Chaplains from different divisions, and different parts of Southern Sudan, since the singing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005.
This training was an amazing experience! As Major General Mabil de Awar, who represented the Minister of Internal Affairs at the closing ceremony, put it: “The chaplains who have been trained will be agents of peace and reconciliation in our new Nation of South Sudan. As a country coming out of 55 years of war with the Islamic government of Khartoum and facing challenges of tribal violence, we need skills in conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and reconciliation.
