Read about Children's Activities in Uganda and Women's Training in Darfur

The children’s department of ALARM-Uganda has been very active recently. In addition, activities at the Deraige Camp for Internally Displaced People (Nyala, Darfur) have also escalated due to a 4-day micro-finance business workshop for 50 women. To find out more click below.

Fun in the Sun for Ugandan Children

We therefore send a special “Thank You” to all the members of Watermark Community Church and other individual donors who have worked tirelessly and given generously so that ALARM-Uganda can carry out the work of ministering to young people across Kampala, Gulu, and Pader. May God richly reward your efforts.

During the month of December 2009, twenty eight ALARM trained mentors conducted home visits to follow-up with children in three communities (Kampala, Gulu and Pader). When school is in session these same mentors also conduct school visits to make sure the children in the program are progressing well with their academic pursuits.

Status reports and profile information that captured family background, health status, education level and family environment were completed for each child in the program.

New Chairman of the US Board

Dear friends and partners: As you know Meredith Wheeler, former chairman of the ALARM Board USA, is now on the ALARM staff as International Director. During the last ALARM Board Meeting the US Board unanimously requested Greg Gilkerson, formerly Secretary of the ALARM Board of Directors, to consider being our next Chairman. Greg’s response was that he would share the request with his wife Pam and together they would pray over it and then get back to us.

It is my greatest joy to announce that Greg has graciously accepted to serve as the new Chairman of ALARM’s US Board of Directors. Most of you may not know this, but the Gilkersons have known and supported ALARM since 1996. Indeed, they have been a family to my family and have been source of encouragement, support, and wise counsel.

It is a great honor and priveledge to have Greg in this important role. Please join me in this celebration but also in praying for Greg as he leads us forward. Let us Praise God for His provision.

Help landslide victims in Uganda

On the evening of March 1st 2010, a huge landslide tore apart the district of Bududa (275km east of Kampala) after a downpour of heavy rain. Bududa lies on the east side of Mt. Elgon – an area prone to landslides. The landslide affected 3 villages. At the time of this report only 86 bodies had been recovered from the mud and 300 people were still mission. At one health clinic a nurse, 3 support staff and all the patients were buried alive. In nearby Butaleja district an additional 6,000 homes were destroyed by heavy flooding. It is estimated that a total of 500,000 people have been affected by this disaster.
Even though the Ugandan government and some international relief agencies were on hand to help with rescue efforts, desperate villagers tried to locate their relatives, using both their bare hands and crude farm tools. Hundreds of people have been evacuated to camps across neighboring districts. The atmosphere is one of gloom and hopelessness as countless villagers mourn their dead loved ones.
The landslide has been largely attributed to massive deforestation along the slopes of Mt. Elgon.

Revelations TV Show Features ALARM

Pastor Chuck Reich of Horizon Media Studios Inc., contacted ALARM late last year, to interest us in appearing on a TV program that his ministry was producing. We jumped at the opportunity to be on national television (via cable and satellite). Starting March 2nd ALARM will be featured on Revelations – a TV show produced by Horizon Media Studios, Inc.
Horizon Media Studios is committed to sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ through television, internet, and other media outlets. Their production team features other non-profit ministries on Revelations – a series produced for television without commercial sponsors or advertisers. It is designed to raise awareness of biblical ministries in the Body of Christ. The Producers and Board of Directors selected ALARM as one of the Christian ministries (that lines up with biblical truth) to feature on upcoming shows and programs.

Help former child soldiers!

Be blessed by this video clip that shows how ALARM and one of its partners, Watermark Community Church in Dallas Texas, are helping children in Northern Uganda. Many of these children had been abducted by the Lord’s Resistance Army and forced to be child soldiers. Today many of those who were able to escape from the bush struggle to go to school, feed and take care of themselves. ALARM and Watermark Community Church are committed to helping as many children as possible regain their self-esteem, attend school, feed their families, forgive their abusers and start to plan their futures. With your help, we can reach many more children.
