Praise God for Developments at CLIS
Posted May 4th, 2010 by nancyIn response to the many challenges facing the church in southern Sudan (tribalism, violence, killings, and poverty) and the desperate need for pastoral training, ALARM established the Christian Leadership Institute of Yei, Sudan (CLIS) in 2004. The CLIS program is designed to strengthen the church, disciple and mentor future church leaders, and equip graduates with the tools needed to plant new churches in their various communities. In addition the CLIS program is designed to help students from different, sometimes warring tribes learn to understand, trust and appreciate each other through peace and reconciliation classes. ALARM has been active in Sudan since 1999 – helping the people of Sudan overcome atrocities of war, genocide, tribal conflict, and militia raids which they experienced for over 20 years.

CLIS provides high-level, quality training in Christian theology with a view to building capacity and a strong infrastructure of Christian leadership in southern Sudan. The institute uses curriculum that has been specifically designed by ALARM for ministry in an African context.

Posted April 29th, 2010 by nancyA Leadership Training Conference was recently held in Soroti, Uganda for 216 participants who represented different tribes, districts (Soroti, Amuria, Katakwi, Serere and Tororo), organizations, government departments (police force and prisons) and over 30 different churches. One particular participant from the police force attended the conference thinking it was a meeting about security issues and before he departed, he accepted Jesus Christ into his life.
The conference was divided along gender lines and the men were exposed to the following topics: leadership skills, conflict resolution, forgiveness, and trauma healing – whereas the women were taught the following subjects: leadership skills, Christian parenting, communication in marriage, trauma healing, the challenges of HIV/AIDS, Bible study, conflict resolution and forgiveness.
Early morning devotions and prayers heralded each day’s training session and small-group sessions helped participants address challenges and share experiences.
Welcome Improvements for Wisdom Community School, Zambia
Posted April 21st, 2010 by nancyALARM’s Wisdom Community School was established out of a tiny village church in Ndola, Zambia. Educational institutes in Zambia are categorized as community schools, if they are initiated by the surrounding community in conjunction with local Churches and/or Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) for the sole purpose of helping orphaned and vulnerable children. Today, Wisdom Community School has two classroom blocks (with 5 classrooms), modern desks and wonderful educational materials. Two full-time teachers instruct a student body of 121 children. The development of this school is a true testament to God’s love, mercy, and provision.
Such schools offer students from poor communities the opportunity to gain an education through the support of the community. Schools of this nature do not receive any financial or material support from the government, which means teachers often work on a voluntary basis (often depending on the community or NGO’s for financial support).
Vision for Peace in Sudan and Healing in Congo
Posted April 12th, 2010 by nancy*A Vision for a Peaceful Sudan *- The just concluded Sudan Church Leaders Forum, organized by the Sudan Council of Churches, was a success. Rev. Celestin Musekura, President and Founder of ALARM, had the privilege of being one of the speakers at the forum. During the gathering a call was made to the World Evangelical Alliance, asking all Christians to join in prayer for the Church of Sudan at this crucial moment in their history.
ALARM has been involved in training and developing leaders in peacebuilding and tribal reconciliation across Sudan since 2000. Through training workshops and conferences, ALARM has been stirring the church towards evangelism, discipleships, church planting, leadership development, peacebuilding, reconciliation, and social justice.
It is ALARMs prayer that the World Evangelical Alliance and the Association of Evangelicals of Africa will appoint a commission to mobilize the Evangelicals to assist the leadership of the Church of Sudan in their efforts and vision for a peaceful Sudan; where the church will engage in: preaching the Gospel, social justice, peacebuilding, forgiveness, and reconciliation.
Pray for Burundi and Sudan
Posted April 5th, 2010 by nancyIn preparation of the upcoming elections, ALARM-Burundi is conducting Servant Leadership & Reconciliation training for police officers across the country. In Gitega a total of 115 police commanders (in charge of the western, eastern, southern, and central regions) have already been trained. In Bujumbura,an additional 36 police inspectors have undergone ALARM training.
While training in Bujumbura, the ALARM staff and Burundi police officers had the opportunity to meet and listen to Sgt. Kibinge wa Muturi, founder of the Christian Police Association in Kenya. The association provides chaplaincy services in every police post in Kenya, along with copies of the Christian Police Magazine. Sgt. Muturi birthed the idea of a Christian Police Association, for Kenyan police officers and their families, after studying about a similar ministry in the United Kingdom. As a result, the Christian Police Association (CPA) of Kenya was commissioned in 1993 and officially established in 1995 by the Police Commissioner. Although Sgt.
